Pittsburgh Pirates Field Coordinator and 3B Coach - Mike Rabelo

Episode #236

In today’s episode, I speak to Mike Rabelo, the Major League Field Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Mike was the hitting coach for the Gulf Coast League Tigers and the Short-season A Connecticut Tigers. He was hired as manager of the Connecticut Tigers for the 2014 season. He was also in the managerial position for the West Michigan Whitecaps, Lakeland Flying Tigers, and Erie SeaWolves'.

He shares his experiences and what he learned as a field coordinator, what goes on behind the scenes, and what makes the game happen to try to get all the players to coordinate and practice differently, better, and manage time efficiently!

He talks about educating players in the best way he can because he believes that the players want to learn and want to be challenged. In this damn good conversation, he talks about compassion for players, how to win players, and developing relationships with players for a long time.

Learn about the importance of how players should run smart, knowing the situation, where's the ball, what's the sign, and where’s the defense.

He shares advice to coaches out there on helping players deal with failure and how it goes back to timing!
